Digital Dictation...
Digital dictation gives an instant operational benefit over and above traditional tape dictation or dictating to typists. The organisation can use scarce transcription resources efficiently, perhaps by pooling typing resources centrally. Staff who create dictation tasks can be on any site in the organisation and still know that their dictation job will be prioritised appropriately. They can check on the progress of their job and re-allocate its priority if appropriate.
The use of the optional batch document scanning function (which includes barcode recognition so the document is added automatically to the correct patient record) means that the organisation can add paper documentation into the electronic workflow. This is often essential where documents need a physical signature e.g. a patient consent form. Scanned documents can be available for the person dictating the document. Again this can give vast gains in efficiency, especially in multi-site organisations. Paper documentation can remain on one site, the clinical user can be on another and the typist on a third, and still the document is typed in a timely fashion.
